Slate Star Codex Essays by Scott AlexanderMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Makes me want to be a cactus person.
A very large collection of essays. There are about a dozen truly insightful essays, one absolutely fantastically funny one and a large number that were ok-ish. If you’ve read the Sequences by Eliezer Yudkowsky and want more then this is the place to start. Though, as with the Sequences, put on your critical thinking hat and take things with a pinch of pepper. The New York times threatened to a hit piece about the author a while back and doxxed him in the process. Having read most of what the author wrote on SSC I do not think the author was represented fairly by the NYT. Perhaps one of their employees was pissed he beat them to the punch on what good anti-covid measures were. The most interesting post in my opinion is: How The West Was Won.
