This book is brilliant and reading it will definitely help you gain an appreciation for NW-India and help plan your trip there.

What it won’t do is actually prepare you for your experiences there. No book can do justice to how small you feel next to the towering architecture or to how good the food tastes (be careful with small bowls of soup, it might be chilli sauce) or the death defying experiences you’ll get wrong-way driving to get lunch on the other side of the Agra to Delhi highway. Oh and don’t worry about the black goop coming out of your nose, that’s just the smog. You should go in the rainy season if you want clean air.
