I’ve read this book concurrently with the movie and I think it is rare when the movie, it’s soundtrack and the original book come together to create such a great piece of art. Reading this on the plane with Tom Twyker’s sextet in my ears made the plane ride to LA feel like a bus ride to the city center instead of the multi-hour intercontinental trip it actually was. The reincarnation theme woven throughout the book connecting the six different stories was subtle, and even though I don’t buy into that sort of thing, it really made the book that much more enjoyable.
